Natural Wonders

Within a day's travel of Albany are some of Australia's best scenic spots The National Parks in the Pemberton and Walpole areas contain vast areas of natural old growth forest. The Valley of The Giants" and The Tree top walk are must visit places.

A day's visit to the Porongurup Ranges and the Stirling Ranges with a walk up Bluff Knoll will thrill those who like walking, with some amazing photographic opportunities.

The Fitzgerald National Park, which is east of Albany, offers some unique flora and the land form is very scenic. Most month's of the year there are wildflowers to observe, as well as a variety of wildlife, An amazing variety of birds live in the coastal parks of WA.
Fitzgerald is a truly wonderful national park. To the north are the Frank Hann, and Peak Charles parks. Spring (September, October) is the time to visit these to see the array of colours when the heath plants are flowering.

This part of the south coast has some of the most fabulous white beaches, and you may be the only one there to enjoy them.
Wave Rock at Hyden, possibly the best known destination in southern WA.
Lake Dumbleyung where Donald Campbell broke the water speed record in 1964, the same year that he broke the land speed record on Lake Eyre in South Australia.
Wineries
The South West and Great Southern regions of Western Australia are fast becoming recognized for the array of wines of world standard that are being produced there.

Most wineries offer an opportunity to "taste" the wines produced, as well as often you can actually meet the owners.
Things To Do In Albany
A stay in Albany would not be complete without at least one cruise. Albany's River boat, the "Kalgan Queen" cruises Oyster Harbour and the Kalgan River, with captain Kalgan calling various raptors to his boat and explaining about other wildlife seen, as well as a most informed history lesson.

Or take a trip on one of the whale watching boats operating during the whale migration (July to November). "Spinners" charter fishing boats offer day fishing trips for the deep sea fishing enthusiast.

Several "dive" boat operators will take you to several reef dives and dives on ship wrecks and on the "Perth", a naval frigate sunk especially for divers.

Several charter aircraft companies operate from Albany airport, and offer various sight seeing tours.
